Sat. S.J. girls' roundup: Three shutouts for Morichetti

Freshman Brielle Morichetti pitched three consecutive shutouts, including a no-hitter, to earn most-valuable-player honors and lead Burlington City to the Palmyra softball championship on Saturday.

Burlington City claimed the crown by slipping past Burlington Township, 1-0. McKenna Booker tripled and scored on an overthrow in the seventh inning for the lone run.

Morichetti held Trenton Catholic hitless and the Blue Devils struck for nine runs in the fourth inning to finish off the Iron Mikes, 14-0, in a quarterfinal. Burlington City punched its ticket into the title game with a 1-0 semifinal win over Penns Grove.

Penns Grove captured third place by pounding Pemberton, 11-0, behind Jordan LaRosa's two doubles and shutout pitching.

Nonleague. Kelsey Dominik starred in the circle and at the plate in leading host Kingsway to a 9-2 defeat of Overbrook.

Dominik stroked two run-scoring doubles in batting 3 for 3, and the senior righthander struck out 10, did not walk a batter, and limited the Rams to two singles. Dragons sophomore first baseman Tori Danner singled twice, drove in one run, and scored once.

Lacrosse

Emily Duffey had a team-high four goals and Carly Walters contributed a hat trick and five assists, sparking a 10-2, second-half surge that carried host Lenape past Haddonfield, 13-11, in an Olympic Conference interdivision game.

Tenaya Clark's four goals led the Bulldogs, who ran out to a 9-3 halftime lead.
