Roman's Lee to play hoops at Robert Morris

THREE COLLEGES based in Florida had been making overtures to Britton Lee because of his basketball skills. Monday night, however, the 5-10, 175-pound guard from Roman Catholic made an oral commitment to Robert Morris, in Pittsburgh.

That might seem like a curious move, especially since Lee is a junior, but it makes every last bit of sense to him.

"Why am I doing this? Because of all the loyalty they've shown," Lee said. "They've been after me since 2 years ago. And they were my very first offer. Any time they've been able to call me [by NCAA rule], they've done it. And any time they've been able to see me play [in AAU events], they've done that, too.

"With my AAU team, Team Final, I've recently been to Minneapolis, Minn., and Hampton, Va. They were there to watch me. It really makes you feel good when you're getting that much love."

Lee, who projects as a point guard for college, also drew strong interest and/or offers from Miami, South Florida, Florida Atlantic, Albany and Quinnipiac.

"I saw one of Robert Morris' home games early last season, when they played Rider," he said. "It was a great experience all the way around."

Robert Morris' coach is former Penn star Andrew Toole.

"He has always liked my game," said Lee. "He contacted me in the ninth grade and said he could see me helping them a lot. I knew him going back [to middle school], when he was still working for Hoop Group (an outfit, based in New Jersey, that organizes camps, clinics, tournaments, etc., for male/female players). We had a bond then."
