Andy: Donovan can still play

ON MONDAY night, Andy Reid switched from football coach to cheerleader. We are, of course, talking figuratively. Don’t try to envision Andy in a short skirt with his midriff exposed or you’ll burn your corneas and have nightmares for months.

Responding to ESPN reports that Donovan McNabb has lost weight and is in shape, Reid said he would recommend the former Eagles quarterback to NFL teams.

“I’d tell them to take him,” Reid told NFL Total Access. “I still think he can play. I think the world of him, and we had some great years together here. I’m always wishing him the best and [I’m] a fan of his. I got a chance to see him at Brian Dawkins’ retirement [ceremony]. He looks good. He looks physically good. He looks like he could go out and play tomorrow. I would highly recommend [him].”

On Monday, McNabb told ESPN that he’s working hard to return to the NFL.

“I’m in great shape, dropped 15-20 pounds,” he said. “But again, it’s not really about that. Because for me, people may have seen how strong I looked, and they kind of [assumed I was] maybe out of shape or whatever. But now that I’m lighter, people all of a sudden [are saying], ‘Well, he’s in shape.’ I’ve been in shape.”

The 35-year-old McNabb played with the Eagles from 1999-2009, appearing in five NFL Championship Games and one Super Bowl.

Reid, the same guy, who said McNabb has gas left in his tank, traded him to the Redskins for a pair of draft picks in April of 2010. Fifteen months later, the Redskins traded him to the Vikings for two sixth-round draft picks. Minnesota released him 5 months later.

When asked which team or teams he would like to play for, McNabb said: “I have a list. A full list, of 32.”

Moyer heads-up

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs, the Phillies Triple A affiliate, are giving away a Jamie Moyer high school bobblehead to the first 3,000 fans 18-and-older who attend tonight’s game against the Indianapolis Indians at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown at 7:05. It’s a figure of Moyer dressed in a Souderton High School uniform, commemorating his ties to the Lehigh Valley area.
