Tennis
District 12 champ Sam Rudovsky of Masterman and District 1 winner Kyle Seelig of Plumstead Christian are headed for a semifinal showdown Saturday after each easily won a pair of matches on the opening day of the PIAA State Class AA singles tournament at the Hershey Racquet Club.
Rudovsky lost a total of four games in four sets and posted a 6-1, 6-2 quarterfinal triumph over District 7 champion Andre Fick of Sewickley Academy.
Seelig, a freshman, had wins of 6-1, 6-0 and 6-2, 6-0 in coasting into the second day.
Also in Class AA, Harriton's Sam Borowsky and Max Blumenthal reached the doubles semifinals with two straight-set wins.
Class AAA. Unionville's Michael Furr and John Wu led a sweep of District 1 winners in the singles quarterfinals. Furr will face Conestoga's Kevin Wang, and Wu will meet North Penn's Mike Buxbaum in Saturday's semifinals.
Conestoga's Jason Sutker and Eric Yen and Radnor's Antoine Martin and Massimo Boni stayed alive in doubles play with quarterfinal wins.
