Swarthmore's Carlson honored in tennis

 Swarthmore sophomore Lia Carlson earned all-American status at the 2012 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Singles Championships, winning her opening-round match before bowing out Thursday in the Round of 16 at Meredith College in Raleigh, N.C. Carlson, of Staten Island, N.Y., defeated Oberlin's Ariel Lewis, 6-4, 6-1, in the first round but lost to Williams College's Kristin Alotta, 6-3, 6-3, in the next round. Carlson, the reigning Centennial Conference player of the year, finished the season with an 18-5 record.

TRACK & FIELD: Temple redshirt senior sprinter Lou Parisi (Hoptacong, N.J.) and junior middle-distance runner Damian Myers (Windsor, Pa.) were among the 12 athletes selected to the Atlantic Ten Conference academic all-conference team.

The other members of the academic all-conference team are Charlotte's Jason Roberts, Macey Ruble, and Elias Coye Still; Duquesne's Jim Spisak; Massachusetts' Daniel Wu; Rhode Island's William Janes, Richmond's Devin Cassels; and Xavier's Keith Albrektson.

MEN'S LACROSSE: Six area players were chosen to compete for the South team in Friday's 71st U.S Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division I-II North/South Game at Harvard Stadium.

They are Drexel goalie Mark Manos and defender Dana Wilber; Penn midfielders John Conneely and Dan Savage, plus Quakers' defender Will Koshansky; and Villanova midfielder Michael Vigilante.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE: Rowan midfielder Michelle Lubrano (Holy Cross) was selected to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) all-America second team.

Four members of Gettysburg's women's lacrosse team have been named all-Americans by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) and Synapse Sports (formerly Womenslacrosse.com).

Senior attacker Hannah Church was a first-team selection on both teams; senior goalkeeper Maddie Coleman was on IWLCA's third team and Synapse Sports' second team; junior defender Alex Casey (Jenkintown, Abington) made the second team on both selections; and junior attacker Lindsey Robinson was third-team honoree on both selections.
