Gadget Guru: Baby monitor good for trips

Posted: May 27, 2012

Lorex makes cutting-edge video-security systems for remote monitoring, often across multiple networks. The company’s newest video monitor thinks small — baby small. The Live View Video Baby Monitor lets caregivers keep an eye and ear on little ones, and with its light weight and easy interface, is a good bet for trips. The system can operate wirelessly, but the rechargeable battery life can vary between four and seven hours, depending on features in use, so you will feel most secure using the included wall adapters. Range is up to about 150 feet indoors, up to 450 feet outdoors, but obstructions can reduce the range substantially. The parent unit has a bright 2.4-inch LCD screen and a stand that doubles as a belt clip. In the dark, the camera switches to night vision. The caregiver can soothe the child via an integrated two-way intercom. A very cool feature is that up to three additional videocamera units can be added to the system, so caregivers can monitor up to four different rooms — nice options for a growing family, or one that does a lot of running around.
