Jack Provine slugged a two-run homer in the top of the eighth that broke a 5-5 tie and sparked a nine-run explosion over the final two innings Monday night, as West Chester defeated Southern New Hampshire, 13-7, in the second round of the NCAA Division II baseball championships in Cary, N.C.

West Chester (44-10) will not play until Thursday when the Golden Rams face the winner of Wednesday's elimination game between Southern New Hampshire (43-14) and Minnesota State-Mankato (49-11).

After a 34-minute rain delay before the start of the game at the USA Baseball National Training Center, West Chester erased three separate deficits, scoring four runs in the eighth and five more in the ninth.

Matt McAllister (Archbishop Wood) pitched 21/3 innings in relief to raise his record to 6-0. Kyle Weary pitched the eighth and ninth for his sixth save.

Joe Wendle (Avon Grove) was 3 for 6 with a triple and a double. Provine and Reid Pulford (Shawnee) each were 2 for 4 with two runs scored and three RBIs.

Josh Heyne was 3 for 3 with a pair of doubles and a pair of walks, reaching base safely in all five trips to the plate.
