A crash involving a tractor-trailer, a dump truck and a passenger car has closed the eastbound lanes of I-76 just east of the Conshohocken curve.

About 300 gallons of diesel fuel has spilled on the roadway because of the crash, which left the dump truck on its side.

One person was taken to hospital for injuries that are described as nonlife threatening.

The crash occurred about 11:20 a.m. near Mile Marker 336, where the expressway goes over Waverly Road in Lower Merion Township, officials said. The eastbound roadway was still closed as of 12:45 p.m.

Only one westbound lane was getting by in the immediate area of the crash.

The pileup brought all eastbound traffic to a standstill while Montgomery County hazardous materials crews worked to contain the diesel fuel on the highway. The fuel was released when all four saddle tanks carried by the tractor-trailer truck ruptured.

Tom Sullivan, the county’s public safety director, said PennDot sent a crew with sand to the scene. Firefighters from Lower Merion had already responded, he said.
