Gatorade honors Penn Charter's Koplove

Penn Charter's Kenny Koplove, a senior shortstop and pitcher, has been named Gatorade baseball player of the year for Pennsylvania.

On the mound, the 6-foot-1, 160-pound righthander went 9-2 with a 2.22 ERA and 88 strikeouts in 562/3 innings this season. He walked 22.

At the plate, Koplove, who is bound for Duke, batted .340 with 23 runs, 20 RBIs, 6 doubles, and 2 triples. He was 12 for 13 on stolen-base attempts.

Koplove helped lead Penn Charter to a 25-7 overall record and a 6-4 mark in the Inter-Academic League.

Past Gatorade player-of-the-year winners for Pennsylvania include Germantown Academy infielder Sean Coyle (2010), Malvern Prep catcher Mike Lubanski (2009), and Kennedy-Kenrick outfielder Chris Lubanski (2003).
