Chef goes from South Philly to ‘Hell’s Kitchen’

"I cried myself to sleep on more than one night," chef Christina Wilson said about the pressure of shooting "Hell’s Kitchen," the new season of which premieres on Fox at 8 p.m. Monday.

While it was an intense experience, Wilson, of South Philly, who attended West Chester and Temple on basketball scholarships, says her competitive sports background helped her deal with the pressure of competition and cameras in her face all the time.

"Yes, he has a mouth; yes, he’s intense, but this is a man who has mastered this craft. If you listen to him, he’s teaching you," Wilson said of the foulmouthed host and restaurateur Gordon Ramsay.

A Phillipsburg, N.J., native, Wilson cooked at Carmine’s Creole in Havertown, and at Lolita and Mercato in Center City but is now off doing private chef jobs in town and down the Shore. She says she wanted to go on the show to learn from Ramsay but admits that the exposure could further her culinary career.

And speaking of Ramsay, he flew into PHL late Tuesday and was driven to Baltimore’s Four Seasons by local limousine tycoon Big Penny.

Is he a ‘Ninja Warrior’?

Look for Bucks County’s Dan Galiczynski on "American Ninja Warrior" at 9 p.m. Sunday on G4. The personal trainer and Holy Ghost Prep graduate has been a gymnast for 15 years, which could help him on the intense obstacle course. If he qualifies on Sunday’s episode, Galiczynski, 24, will be seen at 9 p.m. Monday, when the Northeastern U.S. semifinals air on NBC.

Ween call it quits

New Hope alternative-rock duo Ween have called it quits after 25 years, according to an interview Gene Ween (a/k/a Aaron Freeman) gave Rolling Stone. Freeman said that there was no animosity between him and Mickey Melchiondo (a/k/a Deen Ween), but that "In life sometimes, in the universe, you have to close some doors to have others open."

Curiously, Melchiondo didn’t seem to know of Freeman’s feelings until he read about them.

The Onion’s entertainment arm, AVClub.com, quoted Melchiondo on his private Facebook page saying of the breakup, "This is news to me, all I can say for now I guess." The AV Club also sought comment from Ween’s publicist, who was also surprised by the so-called split. As Daily News reporter Molly Eichel observed on Philly.com, the group’s last record was 2007’s "La Cucaracha" and Freeman recently released his solo debut, "Marvelous Clouds," and spent time in rehab last year after a meltdown in Vancouver.

Nutter doing nuptials

Mayor Nutter will perform the marriage ceremony for Nicole Cashman of PR and events firm Cashman & Associates and DJ and 611 Lifestyle owner Nigel Richards. The happy couple, who were engaged in December, will marry June 9 at the Horticulture Center in Fairmount Park, where guests will be entertained by singer Jessy Kyle.

Italian for Yuengling?

Phillies veteran Darren Daulton and TLC’s "BBQ Pitmasters" host Kevin Roberts dined Tuesday at Scannicchio’s (Broad & Porter) along with Dave Casinelli, CEO of Yuengling Brewing Co. Dutch and Roberts are both spokesmen for Yuengling, which, as you might imagine, the party consumed, along with red wine, during their Italian meal.

Book report

Daily News senior writer Mark Kram Jr. will read from and sign his new book, Like Any Normal Day, from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Warminster Township Free Library. Kram’s book tells the story of Warminster native Buddy Miley, who became quadriplegic after being injured during a high school football game in the 1970s, and his brother Jimmy. Twenty years after Buddy’s injury, Jimmy took him to Michigan, where Dr. Jack Kevorkian aided in his suicide. The book is out now from St. Martin’s Press.
