Thurs. Pa. girls' roundup: Sun Valley succeeds in district final

Jamie Lachall's dependable arm continued to be crucial for Sun Valley as she helped the Vanguards ease past Springfield (Delco), 7-1, in the District 1 Class AAA softball title game at Harriton on Thursday.

The junior struck out seven and walked one to post the win. She's pitched all 23 of the team's games this season.

Alie Alkins led Sun Valley's offense with two hits, three RBIs, and a run scored. She also hit a double.

The Vanguards jumped ahead 5-0 after four innings.

Katie Maloney went 2 for 3, scored twice, and stroked a triple. Amanda Lewis chipped in with a pair of RBIs.

Also in District 1, Bristol captured its second straight Class A title with a 6-0 win over Delco Christian at William Tennent.

Mary Wallick posted the win as she fanned 10 and walked none in seven innings. She also went 2 for 3 and drove in a pair of runs. Kaley Crowhe added two hits and two runs scored.

The Warriors have won the Class A title six of the last seven years.

Christopher Dock captured the Class AA title with a 4-0 win over Springfield (Montco) at Council Rock South. It's the second straight title for Christopher Dock as it also topped the Spartans last season.

Central Bucks South recorded 15 hits en route to dropping Pennsbury, 9-1, at Wissahickon in the Class AAAA third-place game.

Haileigh Stocks struck out two and scattered four hits as she posted the complete-game win.

The senior righty is bound for Robert Morris University. She also drove in a run and recorded three hits. Senior Morgan Becker went 2 for 4 with a pair of RBIs. She's headed to Lehigh University.

The Titans are headed back to the state playoffs after missing the tournament last season.

Hatboro-Horsham secured its spot in the state tournament as it powered past Spring-Ford, 8-1, in the Class AAAA fifth-place game at North Penn.

Junior third baseman Maria Spinosa hit a grand slam in the fourth and Chrissy James and Heather Lutz added bases-empty homers. James finished 2 for 4 and Lutz went 3 for 3. The Hatters pulled away with a four-run fourth inning.

Senior righty Maggie Shaffer secured the win by striking out five and walking two in the complete-game effort. Hatboro-Horsham is the defending PIAA Class AAAA State Champions.
