Her majesty and her knights; Gwyn goes ghetto; Carell at Princeton

Liz II kicks it wid de knights Queen Elizabeth II, celebrating her diamond jubilee, was serenaded in a gala bash Monday eve by Britain’s finest, including Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Elton John, Sir Cliff Richard, and, hilariously, Sir Tom Jones. Isn’t it weird that all these dudes are, like, knights now? Oh, and Shirley Bassey ("Goldfinger") is now a dame. Does the Queen even like such music? Hey, these parties aren’t for her; they’re for the world, and nobody’s better at it than the Brits. Weird: Jones sang his 1968 hit "Delilah," in which a guy stabs a girl to death. Happy day, Queen! Unknighted performers at Buckingham Palace included Annie Lennox, will.i.am of Black Eyed Peas, Kylie Minogue, and JLS. U.S. operatic goddess Renée Fleming sang with the BBC Concert Orchestra.

Pizza magnate, author, and brief GOP presidential nomination hopeful Herman Cain will become a radio host as of Inauguration Day (Jan. 21, 2013). Conservative talker Neal Boortz is retiring after 42 years on the rubber-vocal-cords circuit. Herman, a daily guest on the show, will adjust that leather hat of his and slide right into Boortz’s seat. The Boortz show goes out to 200 stations. "I am ecstatic," Herman said, "that Neal has kept the radio host’s chair warm for me all these years."

La musique c’est très dangereuse!

OK, so the "Watch the Throne" tour with Jay-Z and Kanye West hit Paris this weekend. On Friday, Gwyneth Paltrow went to the show, couldn’t help herself, got up on stage. Alas, she then tweeted a pic of herself onstage with the caption "[plural bad word] in paris for real." Gwyn, who’s even bigger on the Web than in the real world, got buried in a hailstorm of acid comments for using the N-word. She replied: "Hold up. It’s the title of the song!" True, that. And the Paris folks must’ve liked it, because J and KW did it 11 times that night.

Madonna did a concert in Tel Aviv over the weekend. Shy, retiring Madge, seldom known to do anything for mere provocation, projected a pic of Marie Le Pen, leader of France’s far-right National Front … with a swastika over her face. Le Pen says she’s thinking of suing.

We laughed at Steve Carell’s commencement address Monday at Princeton University. "You are young," he informed the future Masters of the Universe. "And because you are young, you are wrong." In his day, a girl didn’t break up with you via Facebook; she did it face to face, giving him "the humiliation and self-loathing a young man or woman needs for growth."
