Seattle coach Pete Carroll said the Seahawks intend to give Brian Banks a serious look during his tryout on Thursday.

Carroll released a statement saying Banks deserves a "second chance at his dream."

Banks was a high school star at Long Beach Poly who was recently exonerated in a California rape case in which he served more than five years in prison after being falsely accused.

Brady or Manning

Since Denver Broncos defensive lineman Ty Warren once played with Tom Brady in New England and now has Peyton Manning running the show in the Mile High City, Warren was asked where he stood on the QB debate.

As in, who's better under center.

"Manning, all day, man," Warren said, laughing. "What do you want me to say? That's my teammate!"

Concussion suit on tap

Lawyers for former NFL players plan to file a single lawsuit Thursday in Federal Court in Philadelphia consolidating scores of complaints accusing the NFL of concealing information linking football-related head injuries to permanent neurological problems.

Coughlin gets new deal

The oldest coach to win a Super Bowl will get at least three more shots at adding to his total. Tom Coughlin signed a two-year contract extension through the 2014 season with the New York Giants.

Strange promise

Jacksonville receiver Justin Blackmon apologized for his "poor judgment," vowed to learn and grow from his latest alcohol-related arrest, and insisted he doesn't have a drinking problem. Nonetheless, he swore off alcohol "for now."

The first-round draft pick was arrested during a traffic stop in Stillwater, Okla., early Sunday after a breath test allegedly showed his blood alcohol content to be three times the legal limit.
