The town

Wellsboro, Pa., is the seat of Tioga County and home of the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon. With its gaslight-lined streets and small-town Victorian charm, Wellsboro is a center for regional activities, from festivals, concerts, theater, and other arts to the hustle and bustle of a booming gas industry. It offers a range of lodging options.

The route

The Pennsylvania Grand Canyon State Park areas display spectacular views of the Pine Creek Gorge, which is almost 50 miles long and more than 1,000 feet deep. Colton Point on the west rim and Leonard Harrison on the east rim of the canyon are "must see" vistas to visit, according to the gorge's website. Camping and picnicking areas are also available.

To get to Leonard Harrison State Park from Wellsboro, follow Route 660 West for 10 miles.

To get to Colton Point State Park from Wellsboro, follow Route 6 West 11 miles to Ansonia, Pa., then left to follow Forest Road for 5 miles.
