This slim young woman paid a heavy price for bringing a court case against the military after she and other activists were arrested and subjected to humiliating "virginity tests."

"I lost everything," she said, "my reputation and my job." But she brought the case "because I want to stop these things from happening to other women."

A military court dismissed charges against the doctor who abused her, but Ibrahim is pursuing the case in international courts. She gets threatening phone messages — which she believes come from the military police — telling her she will die if she does not drop the issue. She refuses to do so.

"I am fighting for our rights as women that our bodies will not be infringed on," she said.
