Student surrenders after Cheyney threat

A CHEYNEY University student who threatened on Twitter to "pull a re-enactment of Columbine and Virginia Tech" at the school Thursday morning was identified later in the day and turned himself in to police, according to a Cheyney spokeswoman.

About 9 a.m., the University posted brief messages on their website and the Cheyney Police Department's Facebook page reporting the threat.

"There really never was any danger but we took precautionary measures in case it had been the case," said Pamela Carter, university spokeswoman.

The student, whose identity Carter did not know, was upset at the school over what "seemed like a pretty benign issue," she said, declining to elaborate.

Carter also declined to confirm statements she made to another media outlet that indicated the student was angry over parking tickets. She said that was "early information."

A campus alert that was sent out around 9 a.m. was lifted by the afternoon. Carter said the campus was never on lockdown and classes ran as usual.

She said that she didn't know if the student would be charged with a crime or expelled. n
