Romney, Rendell to visit Upper Bucks Wawa

Posted: June 16, 2012

A Wawa in Bucks County will be the site of dueling ex-governors Saturday as a visit by Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney will be preceded by a counter-event led by Pennsylvania's ambassador of hoagies, Ed Rendell.

Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts, will make a brief 12:40 p.m. stop at the Wawa at 1960 John Fries Highway in Quakertown as part of his six-state bus tour to tell voters that, according to Romney, "President Obama has offered no hope for the future, and he has left American families to bear the burden of his failed policies."

Rendell, the former Pennsylvania governor and Philadelphia SportsWeek contributor, will appear at the same Wawa at 11:30 a.m., along with other Democratic politicians, to discuss, according to the Democrats, "Romney's failed Massachusetts record and vision."

Romney is scheduled to make a morning visit to the Weatherly Casting & Machine Co. in Carbon County and an afternoon appearance at the Cornwall Iron Furnace in Lebanon County. Romney will speak at both appearances and also will tour the Weatherly facility.

The Democrats plan to have surrogates at those locations to rebut Romney's message.
