The Long Beach Island Health Department has reopened 13 miles of beach from Barnegat Light to Beach Haven after closing the stretch on Saturday when medical waste, trash and other debris washed ashore.
Daniel Krupinski, a senior inspector at the health department, said township employees worked from Saturday through early Sunday to clean the beaches. Krupinsii said the decision to reopen the beaches in six towns was made around 9:15 a.m. Sunday.
"The beaches are clean," Krupinski said. "The ocean is an ever-changing environment, and we're going to continue to monitor it."
