Body of Drexel student found in Schuylkill

The body of an 18-year-old Drexel University freshman who went missing Saturday was recovered late Monday afternoon from the Schuylkill near the Philadelphia Museum of Art, police said.

Stevens Glemaud of West Orange, N.J., attended a party Friday night, and surveillance cameras captured him returning to his dorm room at 3:15 a.m. Saturday, then leaving his room at 6:11 a.m., police said. Video showed Glemaud walking east on Spring Garden Street from 31st Street, and then he disappeared. At 6:40 a.m. Saturday, police responded to a call about a body in the river, but found nothing.

On Monday, Fire Department crews responding to a report of a person in the river around Boathouse Row located Glemaud's body near the Spring Garden Street bridge shortly before 5 p.m., authorities said.

Police believe he committed suicide, but an official determination will be made by the Medical Examiner's Office, authorities said.

In a statement released Monday night, Drexel spokeswoman Niki Gianakaris said: "The Drexel University community is deeply saddened by the loss of Stevens Glemaud, a freshman in the University's College of Engineering. ... In a close-knit community like Drexel, the death of a fellow student is deeply felt. Drexel's Counseling Center is offering its services to members of the community who have been affected by this tragic event."
