Police ID man slain on birthday

Police have released the name of a man slain early Saturday morning in Point Breeze.

Cornelius Riggs, of the 1600 block of Wharton Street, turned 31 that day.

He was found outside with multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and back in the 1200 block of South 15th Street, about five blocks from where he lived.

Riggs was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:19 a.m., about 15 minutes after police got the call.

Suspects and a motive were unknown as of this morning, police said.
