Merion Mercy, Mt. St. Joseph 2d at Henley

Merion Mercy and Mount St. Joseph finished second in their races Sunday in the Henley Women's Regatta in Henley-on-Thames, England, marking the first time two Philadelphia schools had reached the final of the regatta, which is in its 25th year.

Merion Mercy, the defending champion in the junior four, lost to British national schools champion Aberdeen of Scotland by three-quarters of a boat length, after winning a close semifinal over Lady Eleanor Holles of Hampton, England. The Merion Mercy boat consisted of Elissa Jensen, Emily Buongiorno, Sarah Klippel, Giovanna Crozier-Fitzgerald, and coxswain Maggie Collington.

Mount St. Joseph lost the closest final of the day, a photo finish in the junior eight, to Phillips Exeter Academy (N.H.). In the Mount's boat were Dana Lerro, Julie McGlynn, Kathleen O'Connell, Darian DiCianno, Dana Zielinski, Emily Carbone, Rose Ehrlich, Kiera McCloy, and coxswain Mary Raggazino.
