Merion Mercy and Mount St. Joseph finished second in their races Sunday in the Henley Women's Regatta in Henley-on-Thames, England, marking the first time two Philadelphia schools had reached the final of the regatta, which is in its 25th year.
Merion Mercy, the defending champion in the junior four, lost to British national schools champion Aberdeen of Scotland by three-quarters of a boat length, after winning a close semifinal over Lady Eleanor Holles of Hampton, England. The Merion Mercy boat consisted of Elissa Jensen, Emily Buongiorno, Sarah Klippel, Giovanna Crozier-Fitzgerald, and coxswain Maggie Collington.
