First rehab start at second base for Clearwater Threshers seems to go well for Chase Utley

For Chase Utley, it was a start.

Utley, who had been the Clearwater Threshers' designated hitter in three previous Florida State League single-A games, started at second base Monday night while rehabilitating his sore knees.

He batted third, going 1 for 4 with an RBI and a strikeout before leaving after the sixth inning of an 11-7 win over Dunedin, a Toronto Blue Jays affiliate.

He also played well in the field.

In the first inning, he took a throw from catcher Cameron Rupp and tagged out Ryan Schimpf trying to steal second. He also caught the inning-ending pop-up.

Rupp and Utley successfully teamed up again the following inning when Kevin Nolan tried to steal second. The pair did it again in the fourth when Michael Crouse tried to steal.

In the bottom of the fourth, Utley singled to right field to score Peter Lavin. In the fifth he was part of a double play - Utley to shortstop Edgar Duran to first baseman Jim Murphy - that ended the inning.
