Sources: Pa. Turnpike supervisor fired over work issues

Posted: June 21, 2012

A supervisor for the Pennsylvania Turnpike has been fired for not showing up for work and for conducting personal business during work hours, according to turnpike sources.

Samuel Giombolini of Dickson City was the turnpike's district manager for District 5 in Northeastern Pennsylvania.

Giombolini, who had worked for the agency for more than 25 years, was fired for "theft of time" when he repeatedly failed to report to work and was discovered attending to a business he owns during work hours, sources said.

A turnpike district manager oversees fare-collection operations for a district, which is generally about 100 miles long and includes six to 10 toll plazas and 150 employees.

Turnpike spokesman Carl DeFebo said, "Since it's a personnel issue, all I can say on the matter is that Samuel Giombolini is no longer employed by the commission."

Giombolini could not be reached for comment.
