Montour's Barone switches to Temple commitment

Montour High offensive lineman Matt Barone decommitted from Connecticut Monday night and is now on board with Temple.

The 6-foot-2, 285-pound Barone became the fourth player in the Class of 2013 to orally commit to the Owls.

The rising senior follows in the footsteps of Montour teammate Tyler Haddock. Haddock, a defensive tackle, gave an oral commitment to Temple last week after decommitting from Kent State.

Haddock couldn't contain his excitement Tuesday.

"He's my best friend and it is a dream come true to have the opportunity to make a college legacy with him," Haddock said of playing at Temple with Barone.

According to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, the recent death of his maternal grandmother made him reconsider.

"The thing is, I have a real big family and I want to stay closer to home so my family could watch me play," Barone said. "UConn is 11 hours away, so they probably wouldn't see me much."

The duo joins Mainland kicker Jim Cooper Jr. and Moorestown offensive lineman Shane Rafter as Temple's current recruits.
