Erin Maher hit a two-run single to cap a four-run second inning that carried the Suburban One League/Bicentennial team to a 4-0 victory over Lehigh Valley and the Carpenter Cup softball championship on Thursday.

Suburban One/Bicentennial won three consecutive games Thursday in the double-elimination tournament at FDR Park in Philadelphia to earn its first title in this, the eighth year of Carpenter Cup softball. The last two wins came over Lehigh Valley, which had entered the tournament's fourth and final day undefeated.

Paige DeCew (Pennridge) opened the bottom of the second inning with a walk, and singles by Jessica Haug (Central Bucks East) and Jessica D'Agostino (Central Bucks West) loaded the bases.

Vicky Tumasz (North Penn) singled in the first run. Haug scored on an error, and one out later, Maher (North Penn) made it 4-0.

DeCew, Nicole Alden (William Tennent), and Tumasz combined on a six-hitter for Suburban One/Bicentennial.

The second inning also was pivotal in Thursday's first game against Lehigh Valley. Suburban One/Bicentennial scored six runs - three on a bases-loaded triple by Caroline Schoenewald (Central Bucks East) - in the inning en route to a 7-2 victory.

Alden (three innings) and Tumasz (four) pitched for Suburban One/Bicentennial, scattering six hits.

Suburban One/Bicentennial had opened Thursday's play with a 7-6 win over Berks/Lancaster/Lebanon.
