Rumored Mitt Romney VP pick Marco Rubio, the rising-star Republican U.S. senator from Florida, canceled a scheduled book event Wednesday night at the National Constitution Center.

Rubio was supposed to join Talk Radio 1210-AM host Dom Giordano for a sold-out discussion of his new book, An American Son.

"Senator Rubio was called back to Washington to take part in unexpected votes in the Senate," the radio station announced on its website before apologizing to ticketholders.

Rubio canceled a scheduled appearance Tuesday night on Comedy Central's "Daily Show with Jon Stewart." On Tuesday, ABC News and the Washington Post reported that Rubio was not being vetted by the Romney campaign. Later that same day, Romney himself said that Rubio was in fact being vetted by his team.

Rubio's press secretary, Alex Conant, also said the Constitution Center event had been canceled because of Senate voting, as was the "Daily Show" appearance. "The VP speculation had nothing to do with it," Conant noted. "We were able to reschedule a couple of the interviews for studios in D.C. (he did two Fox News interviews last night and was on CBS this morning). We are rescheduling the “Daily Show" for next week, since they could only take us if we were in studio.”

J-Roll at White House

Jimmy Rollins is scheduled to be at the White House on Thursday afternoon to join Vice President Joe Biden in launching a public-service announcement about dating violence and sexual assault. The Phillies shortstop was filmed for the spot at Citizens Bank Park this month, and we're told he is one of five pro athletes to be featured in the ad along with Biden and President Obama.

Rollins will speak at Thursday's White House press announcement about the commercial, where he'll explain why he chose to get involved in the ad. The White House says the PSA is targeted at reducing violence against women, specifically those ages 16-24. The spot should begin airing soon on TV and online.

Bilo talks ‘The Talk'

CBS 3 meteorologist Kate Bilo will guest-host CBS's "The Talk" on June 28 alongside co-hosts Sara Gilbert, Sharon Osbourne, Aisha Tyler and Sheryl Underwood.

Bilo, a Phoenixville native and Penn State graduate, turned 31 Wednesday and called the "Talk" gig a "pretty sweet birthday gift!" Five news and weather anchors from five CBS-owned stations will be in Los Angeles filling in for the vacationing Julie Chen. The show airs at 2 p.m. weekdays.

More on weatherwomen...

6ABC's Cecily Tynan was the top female finisher (with a time of 18:35) at Sunday's 10th annual Gary Papa 5K Run, which benefited Prostate Health International. The event, co-chaired by 6ABC sports anchor Jamie Apody and John Dougherty, who heads Local 98 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, had 5,000 runners and raised more than $250,000 to support prostate-cancer education in the Delaware Valley. Papa, longtime 6ABC sports director, died of prostate cancer in June 2009.

No ‘Love' for local gals

Well, that was quick. Last Thursday, we told you that Fairmount event planner/model Lindsay Furman had joined the cast of NBC's "Love in the Wild." On Tuesday night, Furman was eliminated from the matchmaking/adventure show. Also sent packing Tuesday was Manayunk's Jenny Blatt, who had been on the show since its June 5 premiere. Northeast native Blatt says, "Even though I got kicked off, it was still the greatest experience ever." Blatt's partner, Ben, sent her home in favor of a new contestant, Michelle Sacco, whom Blatt referred to as "Boobs McGee."

Furman is now dating local financial adviser Terry Jue, but Blatt is "still on the prowl," she says. The George Washington High and Temple grad is looking for work in the advertising/PR/social-media field, and says she wants "to land a cute, little, dorky guy that will treat me right."

Darrow on your FM dial
