NEWARK, Del. - Delaware state police have charged a teacher with hitting an autistic student during class.

Danielle E. Finlay, 31, of Newark, turned herself in Thursday morning. She was charged with two counts of offensive touching and was released on her own recognizance.

On March 6, authorities said, Finlay struck a 17-year-old student at the Delaware Autistic Program in the head after the student made loud noises. When the student continued to make the noises, Finlay threw an empty water bottle at him, authorities said.

The student was not hurt. A phone number could not be found for Finlay. It was not known if she had a lawyer. - AP
