How cool is that?
"It was just us in the whole place, and we were just going room to room — just bouncing and flipping all over the place, hitting each other with balls, sweating, our shirts filthy," Jacobs told the Sacramento Bee. "We were just dirty, stinky boys, you know?"
Jacobs said Armento's gesture touched his heart.
"I'm at a point in my career when people have stopped believing in me and not believing that I can still play. But that's not the case. Joe believes in me, gave me a lot of confidence and a lot of want-to. And I'm ready to go. I can't wait until the season starts."
Way off track
Nick Symmonds has something no other athlete competing in this weekend's Olympic Trials has: Paris Hilton's cellphone number.
Symmonds, who ran the fastest 800 meters in the United States this year, is scheduled to compete in Friday's Trials in Eugene, Ore.
Recently, according to NBC Sports, he went on a date with Hilton.
"She . . . is even more beautiful in person than I had expected," Symmonds said.
Geez, the next place he should run is to the eye doctor.
Back to the future
On Friday night, the Phillies open a three-game series with the Rays, a team that will wear 1979 throwback jerseys when they host the Tigers on Saturday, June 30. Guess it doesn't matter that the Rays weren't formed until 1998.
