Rapper/actor Ice Cube and DJ Drama crowned local hip-hop artist Aquil as "Philadelphia's Coldest MC," at the 2012 Coors Light Search for the Coldest Semifinals held Thursday at the Electric Factory. Metallica's James Hetfield had a late dinner around midnight Saturday at SeaBlue at the Borgata after performing at the Orion festival, which the metal legends headlined, performing Saturday and Sunday at the outdoor festival in Atlantic City.

Ballet leader's bride
Congratulations to Pennsylvania Ballet's artistic director, Roy Kaiser, and Melissa Ann De Ruiter, who were wed Saturday at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, where she is the executive vice president of fundraising. The couple have been dating since 2005 and will honeymoon in Paris at the end of July. Kaiser was a dancer with the Pennsylvania Ballet until 1992 and became artistic director in 1995.
Mahoney writes book
"Police Academy" star Steve Guttenberg will discuss his new book, The Guttenberg Bible, at 7:30 p.m. July 16 at the Katz JCC in Cherry Hill. It's part of Katz JCC's ongoing Bank of America Festival of Arts, Books & Culture. The "3 Men and a Baby" actor, who was seen more recently on "Dancing with the Stars," will also appear at a $50-a-ticket private reception, which includes a copy of the book. "Promise Land," a South Asian film about a same-sex couple, a traditional family and a group of IT workers connected by immigration issues in the United States screens Thursday night at the Ritz East (125 Sansom). Director Kevin Dalvi and cast members will speak following the 7 p.m. screening, then head to Reserve (2nd & Chestnut) for an after-party. Congratulations to La Salle students David Grzybowski, Sean Gubitosi, Catherine Zini, Andrew Groy and Mike McCoy, whose short film "Empty Pages" won the best-story award Saturday at the Campus MovieFest Awards in Los Angeles. The movie previously won best-picture award at the university's Campus MovieFest. The same filmmakers competed their film "Recubo" at the LA finals last year. You can see both on YouTube.
