Firefighters responding to a call overnight about a trash fire in Northeast Philadelphia discovered something else instead: A bound, burned human body off the side of the road in a wooded area not far from the Forman Mills shopping center.

Homicide detectives confirmed the male body was found after the Philadelphia Fire Department was called around 1 a.m. to the 5500 block of Newtown Ave., just off Adams Ave., in the Lawncrest neighborhood. The body bound was bound with electrical cord around the neck, arms and legs. It was also tethered to a fence at the scene, which is in the area of Tacony Creek Park. Forman Mills is situated just to the east. The Olney Playground is situated just to the west.

Police could not confirm the race of the body, and were awaiting autopsy results from the Medical Examiner's Office.

Chief Inspector Scott Small told news crews there was an odor of gasoline at the scene, and that the incident was still under investigation.
