Domonic Brown to be out longer than expected

ALLENTOWN — IronPigs manager Ryne Sandberg indicated that injured Triple A outfielder Domonic Brown will be sidelined longer than the organization hoped.

Brown, once the Phillies' top prospect, left a game June 14 when he strained his right knee. He has been totally shut down for the last 12 games.

"It's going a little bit slower than we thought it would initially take," Sandberg said . "He's getting evaluated today and again on Thursday. Hopefully, we'll get him on to baseball activities. Get him going towards getting on the field.

"It's probably also a little bit cautionary as well on the organization's part, so he can get this behind him and have a number of healthy days down the stretch."

Brown stayed with the team on its eight-game road trip, completed Monday. He is hitting .266 with four home runs and 22 RBI in 47 games with the Pigs, but was hitting .300 in June when he was injured.

Brown, 24, also has struggled with a hamstring injury, a neck injury and a thumb injury this season. He spent parts of the last two seasons with the parent club Phillies, but hit just .236 with seven homers and 32 RBI in 91 games and struggled in right field as well.
