Enjoy today: heat wave on way

Posted: June 28, 2012

Though today's forecast calls for near perfect summer weather, the second heat wave of the summer begins tomorrow, with temperatures climbing into the 90s through early next week.

Today's high is forecast for 86 degrees under sunny skies.

Then the warmth is expected to build in following days, starting Thursday with a projected high of 92, and the start of the summer's second heat wave.

The National Weather Service out of Mount Holly has issued and excessive heat watch from Friday afternoon through Sunday night, with humidity building up through the weekend.

Indeed, highs Friday are expected to reach 95 degrees, with a low of 74.

Saturday will be slightly warmer with an increasingly sticky feel. Sunday will be about the same.

Heat indexes could approach 100 degrees over the weekend.

But the heat wave - noted by three successive days of temperatures 90 or above - is expected to linger, possibly through Tuesday.
