Ranger to defend ARCA title at Millville

Posted: June 28, 2012

ANDREW RANGER wouldn't miss returning to Millville, N.J., Sunday. The Quebec native won last year's Automobile Racing Club of America race at New Jersey Motorsports Park.

"It's something I've been proud of, winning in my first ARCA start," Ranger said.

Ranger, 25, won last year's race the hard way, starting in the back of the field after the engine on his Dodge faltered in practice. Ranger led eight laps, including the last two after passing Australian George Miedecke.

Ranger is racing full time in the Canadian Tire Series, where he is third in points.

Four different drivers have won the four previous ARCA races on NJMP's 2.25-mile Thunderbolt Raceway course: Justin Allgaier, Patrick Long, Casey Roderick and Ranger.

Other drivers to watch in the 67-lap 150-mile 1 p.m. race include:

Standings leader Brendan Poole, who has 2,090 points. He won at Pocono Raceway earlier this month. ARCA will return to Pocono Saturday Aug. 4.

Cherry Hill's Tom Hessert, seventh in ARCA points, with 1,810.

Chase Elliott, son of NASCAR veteran Bill Elliott. The points leader in the K&N Pro Series East is making his third ARCA start.

Milka Duno, a versatile racer with IndyCar and sports-car racing background.

Other events during NJMP'S All-American Race Weekend presented by Global Barter Corp. include Formula Atlantic and Trans Am series races. For details, check www.njmp.com. n
