After beginning his career as a federal law clerk in Philadelphia, Mr. Kittredge worked for two Philadelphia law firms - becoming a partner at Labrum & Doak and litigation department chair at Cohen, Shapiro - before helping to found Kittredge, Kaufman & Donley in 1981.
In 2008, the latest version of his firm merged into the Philadelphia office of Thorp Reed & Armstrong, where he was of counsel at his death.
Mr. Kittredge was an adjunct professor at Temple's law school for more than 20 years, his wife said.
Since 2004, Mr. Kittredge had been president of the Historical Society of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, she said.
In 2004-05, he was chairman of the magistrate judge merit selection panel for the federal court in Philadelphia.
Mr. Kittredge was a member of the panel of arbitrators for the American Arbitration Association and a member of the Penn Law Inn of Court.
A fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, he was its Pennsylvania state chairman in the 1990s.
He was a fellow of the International Society of Barristers and of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers.
A member of the Bala Golf Club, the Overbrook Golf Club, and the Tavistock Country Club, Mr. Kittredge marked his career with two holes-in-one at Bala.
Besides his wife, Mr. Kittredge is survived by sons Patrick W. Jr., Daniel, and Kevin; daughters Alexandra Braine and Maureen; three brothers; a sister; and five grandchildren.
An eulogy was set for 10:45 a.m. Friday, June 29, at St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, 300 Kings Highway, Haddon Heights, before an 11 a.m. Funeral Mass there. Burial is to be private.
