The Dwyer

Belmont Park, Race 10 - Post 5:38

$200,000 (Grade II), 3 y.o., 1-1/16 miles

1. Morgan's Guerrilla. . . Ramon Dominguez. . . 4-1

2. Fast Falcon. . . Rosie Napravnik. . . 10-1

3. Guyana Star Dweej. . . Jose Ortiz. . . 15-1

4. Unstoppable U. . . Javier Castellano. . . 3-1

5. Zetterholm. . . Junior Alvarado. . . 3-1

6. Teeth of the Dog. . . Joel Rosario. . . 5-2

7. Monarchic. . . Jose Lezcano. . . 15-1

Teeth of the Dog made a giant move to win a $100,000 stake on the Belmont Stakes undercard, starting a great day for trainer Michael Matz. This is not the best 3-year-old in the barn, but he is clearly getting better. Union Rags, of course, won the Belmont for Matz and is getting ready for the Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park on July 29. Teeth of the Dog, however, is a pretty nice understudy. Zetterholm had won three straight against New York breds before a decent fourth in the Preakness. Fast Falcon was second to Teeth of the Dog 3 weeks ago.

* D.J.'s picks:

1. Teeth of the Dog

2. Zetterholm

3. Fast Falcon

The Triple Bend Handicap

Hollywood Park, Race 6 - Post 6:38

$250,000 (Grade I), 3 y.o. & up, 7 furlongs

1. Tres Borachos. . . Victor Espinoza. . . 8-1

2. Centralinteligence. . . Jose Valdivia Jr.. . . 6-1

3. Mobilized. . . Garrett Gomez. . . 6-1

4. Don Tito. . . Martin Pedroza. . . 20-1

5. Camp Victory. . . Joe Talamo. . . 6-1

6. The Factor. . . Rafael Bejarano. . . 5-2

7. Smiling Tiger. . . Mike Smith. . . 7-2

8. Comma to the Top. . . scratched. . . 12-1

9. Italian Rules. . . Kevin Krigger. . . 8-1

The Factor's trip to Dubai did not go well, but if the post-Dubai form of two other American horses (Game On Dude, Royal Delta) who performed poorly over there is an indicator, watch out. Those two won recent blowouts. The Factor has the kind of talent to go all the way against this field, even if a blowout is unlikely. Centralinteligence is a very fast and very talented son of Smarty Jones. Camp Victory almost never runs poorly.

* D.J.'s picks:

1. The Factor

2. Centralinteligence

3. Camp Victory

The Shoemaker Mile

Hollywood Park, Race 9 - Post 8:10

$300,000 (Grade I), 3 y.o. & up, 1 mile (turf)

1. Dubai You X Y Z. . . Brice Blanc. . . 15-1

2. Hudson Landing. . . Juan Hernandez. . . 20-1

3. Little Mike. . . Joe Bravo. . . 3-1

4. Suggestive Boy. . . Joe Talamo. . . 6-1

5. Jeranimo. . . Garrett Gomez. . . 7-2

6. Corporate Jungle. . . Rafael Bejarano. . . 5-1

7. Liberian Freighter. . . Martin Garcia. . . 12-1

8. Mr. Commons. . . Mike Smith. . . 2-1

Little Mike outran a ton of speed to the top at Churchill on Derby Day and never slowed down. Looks like lone speed in here and will be hard to catch. Corporate Jungle is a mile grass specialist who may get overlooked in the wagering. Mr. Commons always gets overbet. He finished second in his last two at odds on.

* D.J.'s picks:

1. Little Mike

2. Corporate Jungle

3. Mr. Commons
