Ryan Suter's agent said the Nashville Predators defenseman will be hitting the NHL's free agent market.

Neil Sheehy said he doesn't know where Suter will sign, but added the player will keep the Predators "in the mix."

Free agency opens at noon Sunday with Suter heading a short list of marquee players expected to be available. Also on that list is New Jersey Devils captain Zach Parise.

Besides the Flyers, Detroit, Tampa Bay, Anaheim, and Edmonton are among the teams expected to have interest in the 27-year-old Suter.

Signings

The Pittsburgh Penguins and defenseman Matt Niskanen agreed to two-year, $4.3 million deal.

The New York Rangers are keeping Marty Biron away from free agency by working out a two-year deal, with a cap hit of $1.3 million a year.

The Colorado Avalanche signed forward Steve Downie to a two-year contract. Downie was a first-round selection of the Flyers in the 2005 draft.

The Columbus Blue Jackets agreed to terms with right winger Jared Boll on a two-year, $2.1 million contract.
