Barricaded man surrenders in South Philadelphia

Posted: July 02, 2012

A man who had barricaded himself all day Sunday in a South Philadelphia rowhouse along with his two children surrendered to police around 5:30 p.m.

Police came to the house in the 1800 block of Dickinson Street shortly after 10:15 a.m., after residents of the block saw that the man had allegedly killed a cat from the neighborhood, set it on fire and hung it on a fence on the side of his house, neighbors said.

Police have not released the man's identity.

He agreed to leave the house with his two sons, believed to be ages 1 and 4. He entered a police car with the boys. The police then put the children in a separate car and arrested the man.
