Holiday added to U.S. Select Team

Posted: July 03, 2012

AS FAR AS making practice squads, Jrue Holiday Monday made perhaps the best one in all of sports.

The starting point guard for the 76ers was added to the 2012 USA Men's Select Team that will train July 6-11 against this year's USA National Team during a training camp in Las Vegas. Fellow Sixer Andre Iguodala is part of the National Team, vying for a spot on the roster that will compete in the London Olympics later this month.

Said USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo of Holiday: "In naming Jrue to our Select Team, we've added an athletic guard who can get to the rim and someone who is also a good three-point shooter. Both those skills will be invaluable in helping prepare our National Team for this summer."

Holiday was a member of the USA Junior National Select Team in 2008 and part of the 2007 USA Basketball Youth Development Festival Blue Team that captured the silver medal.

Finalists for the 2012 USA National Team expected to be in Las Vegas are Iguodala; Carmelo Anthony, Kobe Bryant, Tyson Chandler, Anthony Davis, Kevin Durant, Rudy Gay, Eric Gordon, Blake Griffin, James Harden, LeBron James, Kevin Love, Chris Paul, Russell Westbrook and Deron Williams. Of those 16 players, 12 are expected to be selected. The head coach of the Olympic team is Mike Krzyzewski.
