Woman, 20, dies in Route 70 crash with student driver in Burlington County

A 20-year-old woman was killed Tuesday when her car veered into oncoming traffic on Route 70 in Burlington County and struck a vehicle operated by a teenage student driver from Mount Laurel, state police said.

Elizabeth Hynoski of Toms River, N.J., died at the scene shortly after 10:30 a.m. on westbound Route 70 in Southampton, Trooper Christopher Kay said.

The 16-year-old Lenape Regional High School student and her instructor, Anthony Guerrera, 39, a special-education teacher who coaches boys' tennis and girls' soccer at Lenape, were flown to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton. They were listed in critical but stable condition Tuesday afternoon, state police said.

Guerrera, of Southampton, is working as a driving instructor for the summer, said Len Westman, a Lenape principal. He declined to identify the girl, who he said would be a junior in the fall.

Guerrera is "an excellent teacher, highly successful as a coach, and a great person," Westman said. His wife, Jennifer, teaches history at Lenape, Westman said.

Investigators said a chain reaction started when Hynoski, who was heading east in her Hyundai, struck the rear driver's side of an eastbound Ford driven by Kenneth Chaney of Bel Air, Md., authorities said.

Hynoski's car crossed over the double yellow lines and collided with a westbound Saturn driven by the student, police said.

Chaney was not hurt, police said.
