Phillie Phoodie reviews Philly Fresh

Outlet: Philly Fresh

We went: Pregame, 6:35 p.m.

Wait: None.

Order: Philly Salad.

Cost: $8.

Let's cut to the chase: Not only is the Phoodinator a carnivore, he believes that serving salad at a ballpark goes against everything for which baseball — and America — stands. But Tolerance is our middle name. So, during the last (dreadful) Phillies homestand, we sucked it up and visited this outlet behind Section 138 at Citizens Bank Park.

Rating the rabbit food: Philly Fresh has a limited menu — wraps, salads, fresh fruit and parfaits. Our Philly Salad (Since when does salad get a "Philly" qualifier?) consisted of nine thin slices of grilled chicken and a few carrot shavings atop a decent-size helping of spring-mix lettuce with a honey-mustardish dressing. The ingredients were fresh (the chicken seemed a mite overcooked), and actual flavors could be discerned. The piquant dressing could have been a little less tangy.

Got a spork? The salad came with a spoon. But the nice lady at the register swapped it out for a fork.

Final score: A ballgame is no place for a salad, but for those who demand a lighter, more calorie-minded ballpark-dining experience, the unimaginative but adequate Philly Salad rates a single.
