1 small tart apple
1 cup slightly stale white bread, crusts removed, cut into small pieces
1½ tablespoons melted butter
2 tablespoons maple syrup
1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Heavy cream or vanilla ice cream for garnish
1. Peel and core apple and cut into chunks. Heat a couple of tablespoons of water in a small heavy pot and toss in the apple. Lower the heat, cover and cook, stirring a few times, for about five minutes or until apples are soft. Cook a little longer, adding a splash more water if necessary.
