A Northeast Philadelphia man has been charged with breaking into an apartment in his neighborhood and beating an 86-year-old woman in her bed during an attempted robbery this week, police said Friday.

Dimetry Worthy, 19, of the 2200 block of Strahle Street in Rhawnhurst, was arrested Wednesday after an attempted break-in on the 2100 block of Emerson Street, police said. He was then charged in the home invasion, which occurred earlier Wednesday, police said.

Worthy was charged with aggravated assault, burglary, robbery, and related offenses in the beating of Yevdokiya "Eva" Rulevskaya in her Rhawnhurst apartment, police said. Rulevskaya suffered a broken orbital bone and required 11 stitches, said her granddaughter Ilona Burik of Bucks County. She was treated at Aria Health-Torresdale Campus.

Worthy was also charged in a March home-invasion robbery and in two car break-ins earlier this week, police said. - Inquirer staff
