Police: Woman robbed by fake postal worker

Posted: July 18, 2012

Police in Northeast Philadelphia are looking for a man who they say impersonated a postal worker, then forced his way into a woman's Bustleton home at gunpoint Tuesday morning and robbed her.

The man, in full postal uniform, knocked on the door of the woman's home on Nester Place at 9:45 a.m. and asked her to sign for a letter, Seventh District Capt. Joseph Zaffino said. When she opened her screen door, the man displayed a gun, forced her into a bedroom, and demanded her valuables, Zaffino said. The gunman robbed the woman, who police said is about 70, of cash and jewelry.

The gunman was described as a clean-shaven Hispanic man, 5 feet, 5 inches to 5 feet, 7 inches tall, between 25 and 30 years old, with a medium build.

Police cautioned residents not to open their doors for postal workers they don't recognize. - Morgan Zalot
