The Anderson Monarchs ended their 19-day baseball barnstorming tour late Wednesday night when they finally returned to Philadelphia.

On Tuesday night, however, the party was still in full swing as the 16 10- and 11-year-old ballplayers from South Philadelphia took in the Washington Nationals-New York Mets game at Nationals Park.

The kids got to see a pinch-hit home run by the Mets' Jordany Valdespin and the Nationals win the game in the bottom of the 10th on a wild pitch with the bases loaded.

They loved that almost as much as singing "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" with the Nationals' mascot on the big screen during the seventh-inning stretch.

They also got to meet Nationals star Ian Desmond before the game. He gave each Monarch a pair of his used batting gloves and some good advice: keep working hard to believe in themselves.

In all, the Monarchs saw eight major-league games on their trip. And, after Tuesday's 5-4 win by the Nats, the home team won every game.

With that kind of record, maybe more teams will want the Monarchs to visit on their next tour.
