As they unveiled the new offices of the Daily News, Inquirer and Philly.com Thursday, company officials spoke of the strong tradition of journalistic excellence that took place at the old white tower building on North Broad Street, but said that they look forward to continuing that tradition at "our new home."

Chief Executive and Publisher Bob Hall said that the new home is a state-of-the-art facility for multimedia projects and that staffers will deliver the news in print, online, or by video to people "when they want it and how they want to get it."

Interstate General Media is the parent company of the two newspapers, SportsWeek and Philly.com, which now operate in 125,000 square feet of space on the third floor at 801 Market St. The building was once home to the Strawbridge & Clothier department store.

When the move was announced, Hall said, Frank Strawbridge called and told him that the third floor was where customers bought "ladies dresses and lingerie."

IGM managing partner George Norcross III praised the offices as a place where the papers can start anew. "This will be a new vision for the future," Norcross said.

And Lewis Katz, IGM senior managing partner, noted that the newspapers have created a partnership with Temple University to store the papers' former library clippings and photographs at Temple's Urban Archives.

Leaders of community groups benefited from the move through donations of office furniture or supplies.

Major Gen. John Cranford, of the Salvation Army of Greater Philadelphia, said his organization took "about 30 truckloads" of office furniture that it will use in locations around the Delaware Valley.

Other organizations that received donations were the Martin Luther King Jr. Association for Nonviolence, the United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey, Philadelphia Youth Build, the African-American Youth Center and the Philadelphia Police 15th District. n
