Family members of Quawi Twiggs gathered in court Friday and listened, many weeping, as Camden Superior Court Judge Irvin Snyder sentenced the 19-year-old to 20 years in state prison, 85 percent of it without parole.
Twiggs received the maximum sentence after pleading guilty to aggravated manslaughter for the 2010 shooting of his father, Kevin Archie. Twiggs, then 17, shot Archie, 50, multiple times near the family's home on North 19th Street in Camden. Siblings and cousins of Archie who gave victim-impact statements in court pushed for the tough sentence. Twiggs apologized for his actions.
