After a water-main break near 21 st and Bainbridge streets late Sunday night, homes in at least four blocks surrounding the break were evacuated, and a spokesman for the Red Cross said the organization was setting up temporary shelter from displaced people at Stanton School, 17th and Christian streets.
Several blocks surrounding the site of the break were flooded, and reports indicated that water service was affected for more than a two-mile stretch, as far north as west of Rittenhouse Square and as far south as parts of Point Breeze and South Philadelphia west of Broad Street.
