TOM PENN is a leading candidate to replace Rod Thorn as general manager of the Sixers, ESPN reported, citing league sources.
Penn is an NBA analyst for ESPN. He formerly was an assistant GM with Portland and Memphis.
Thorn confirmed in June that the interviewing process to hire his replacement had begun. Thorn is entering the final year of his 3-year contract as president/GM, but the deal he signed in August 2010 with then-chairman Ed Snider included a provision for Thorn to become a part-time consultant for 5 years after his contract expired.
