FBI investigating threat about Villanova

Posted: July 25, 2012

The FBI and Radnor Township police are investigating a "vague telephone threat" made to police concerning Villanova University, according to an e-mail sent to faculty, students and staff.

Ann E. Diebold, vice president for communications, said in the e-mail that the university "has been in ongoing contact with law enforcement, which does not believe these calls are credible."

Radnor Township police referred calls to the FBI. Villanova University and the FBI had no comment citing an ongoing investigation.

According to sources in law enforcement, the calls were made by a man in California who was known to police. He made threats to about four universities. Officials said they believe he is not capable of carrying out the threats.

"Similar calls appear to have been placed by the same individual to other organizations throughout the country," Diebold said in the e-mail.
