Philadelphia fugitive sought in Glouco shooting

A 38-year-old man was shot and wounded outside his Franklinville home late Thursday during a dispute over a woman, authorities said.

Police later stopped a car carrying the suspect, but he evaded capture by running into nearby woods.

The Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office said attempted murder and related charges have been filed against Robert Bell, 38, of Williamstown.

Bell also is sought by Philadelphia police as a fugitive from a half way house, officials said

According to a statement from the prosecutor's office, Bell shot the 38-year-old man in the right thigh about 10 p.m. Thursday on Eagle Lane after the two were separated by bystanders and the victim was walking back to his house following an argument over a woman.

Bell's gun jammed on an initial attempt to shoot the victim, the statement said.

He fled in a car driven by the victim's sister.

Police stopped the car nearby, but Bell bolted into nearby woods and authorities could not find him after an "intensive search," the statement said.

The wounded man was taken to Kennedy Memorial Hospital in Washington Township and later transferred to Cooper University Hospital in Camden.

Anyone with information on Bell's whereabouts is asked to call the Gloucester County communications center at (856) 307-7180 and ask for Det. John Petroski of the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office, or call the Franklin Township Police Department at (856) 694-1415.

Philadelphia court records show Bell was sentenced to 2 1/2 to 6 years in prison after pleading guilty to aggravated assault.
